Fiery Hues Photoshoot w/ Sav (Pt. 3)

While driving away from our prior location to soak up the warmth of the dashboard heat, I spotted a small shack on the side of the road that I thought Savannah and I should check out. I pulled over about 100 feet past it with my car at a steep angle on the side of the road. I opened my driver door with force, as Savannah only had to pull the handle and her passenger door flung right open. We headed down the side of the road on foot and made our way through chest-high vegetation to the tattered shack with it’s door propped shut.

A passing car honked at us, and yelled. We were confused at first, then realized it was our friend Stephen 😛

Being such a small shack and the inside not really having a floor, we came and wentIMG_0572

Next, we headed to the large concrete silos near the middle of town. I drove up to the bank and parked behind it. I had never gotten up close to these silos before and I don’t believe Sav had either, so it was all a surprise to us. The first silo had lots of interesting aspects to it, which we used to our fullest advantage!

That dripping green paint gradient effect!

And to the square opening the background…

Sometimes it just makes sense to frame the subject within a rectangle!

I wanted to add a little more depth, so I asked her to peak her head out from the opening.IMG_0596

We then went around the outside of the silo to find some nice color and angles.

From here, we headed to the neighboring silo across the field. We mostly kept the photos to the inside, as the outside walls weren’t as appealing from where we were standing. Don’t get me wrong, the silo as a whole is beautiful, it just wouldn’t have worked as well for these photos.

All in all, we had great day and got some great photos, Savannah is a natural!

  • Sav Silver

Savannah and I came to the conclusion that we’d taken plenty of photos at Rewind Time  and it was time to move on. There was no next location in mind, so I began to drive toward Johnson, though with my mind jumping around, I turned around and drove toward Jeffersonville instead. As we got into town, I pulled over at a park and ride so we could plan out where to shoot next. Nearby was a gigantic field coated in ice. I had been seeing so much ice this particular morning that I felt like we had to use it to our advantage. After quickly grabbing some lunch at the convenience store, we carefully made our way down the slick walkway to the icy field. The scene was beautiful, with plentiful winter vegetation, bright grey skies, and glare ice covering the entirety of the land.

I was feeling optimistic about this spot. The dull light and muted colors all around were perfect for Savannah’s makeup and outfit. The perfect amount of light was shining through the overcast skies, allowing Sav Silver to shine!

So I gave Sav enough cards to hold and fan out, and we got right into it.

I think the way Savannah presents herself in photos is the aligned with the aesthetic that I am going for. In that sense, I am extremely thankful to have a friend willing to put in the time and energy to create together. Sure it feels like fun and games when we’re out and about

Savannah ended up laying down on the ice, allowing me to photograph different angles using the cards on the ice. She wasn’t getting warmer by any means, so

The cold ice became too much so we made our way off the field and back up the slick walkway to my car. As we approached the parking area, we each saw a newer walking bridge in the distance that could be useful. Savannah also remembered that she wanted to get more photos of her skirt before she changed up her outfit. We walked over to the bridge as not to miss an opportunity. I don’t think I used the bridge to it’s fullest potential, but I’m glad we decided to go over and try it out. I think it’s notable how simple movements can add surreal interest to a photo, so I’m eager to explore more of this in future photoshoots.

    PART 3 NEXT WEEK?

  • Rewind Time with Savannah

    Rewind Time with Savannah

While driving along the roads of Vermont, you will no doubt pass by antique stores and possibly wonder what’s inside. These buildings are filled with local history pertaining to daily life, and there is no way of knowing what you might find until you stop in and take a look. They provide a sense of place in the world, allowing you to take a step back in time and see how life once was. Up until a few weeks ago, I had only visited one antique store. Rewind Time was the second.

I had finished an incredible powder day at Smugglers’ Notch. After making my way across town, the steering wheel and dash of my Subaru were shaking to no end. I pulled into the parking lot at the Rewind Time to assess what might be going on. I could assume there was an abundance of snow in my wheel wells, so I kicked out as much as I could hoping to solve the problem and I could head home with a smoother drive.

Since I was basically at the front door of the antique store, I walked inside wearing my large jacket and baggy snow pants. I was greeted by a woman who offered me gingerbread cookies. She said I lucked out because they usually aren’t open that day. I roamed around the downstairs which was very clean and organized, with many nice but pricey items covering all bases. She mentioned there was more to see through the double doors and up the stairs, but it still held the cold from last night.

I was eager to see what the upstairs held, so I headed up and felt like I traveled through time. I was inspired by what this gigantic barn had to offer. Between the magnitude of space and the items that filled it, I could walk around looking at antiques until dinnertime! Ultimately I headed back down and said goodbye, but the vision of Rewind Time stayed with me.

    Photos from my first visit:

I didn’t immediately think of having a photoshoot here. While discussing possible ideas with Savannah weeks later, the idea resurfaced into my mind. There was so much visual interest in the massive room that it seemed like a no brainer to try a photoshoot here.

The day of the shoot had come. Like usual, there was no plan set in stone. We drove to our first location and began the adventure inside Rewind Time. The owner allowed us to take photos, so we headed upstairs to the second floor. It seemed colder up here than it was outside, luckily not cold enough to see our breath. My main goal was to find the best lighting and the most interesting areas and items to have in the photos. We roamed around from setting to setting, working with what we saw. Savannah would see something neat and we would find ways to use it. Working with her is a professional and amusing process as we are both still learning, yet it seems to go well no matter what.

    Enjoy the art!

Savannah found this shag rug was draped over a chair half onto the ground. We couldn’t pass it up!
